Comfort symptoms are evidence
Persistent hot or cold rooms, doors moving when the blower starts, loud registers, weak airflow, dusty cavities, and long return paths point to distribution problems. The thermostat can hide these because it sees only one location.

- Whistling filters or noisy supplies
- Crushed, disconnected, or uninsulated ducts
- High utility use with long runtime
- Strong pressure when bedroom doors close

- Measured static pressure above equipment guidance
Measure before replacing
Ask for total external static pressure, filter and coil pressure drops, blower settings, temperature change, and room airflow where comfort problems are severe. Those measurements show whether the proposed system and existing ducts can work together.
Sealing and sizing are different
Sealing stops unintended leakage. Sizing provides enough low-resistance area to move the required air. A perfectly sealed undersized duct system is still restrictive. A large leaky system still wastes conditioned air.
Write duct scope into the proposal
Define which runs, returns, transitions, grilles, insulation, supports, balancing dampers, and tests are included. Require post-work verification so the duct promise becomes a measurable outcome.
